Time for a Sprint
If you’re anything like me, you are always searching for something fun, or scary, to train for. It makes getting off the couch that much easier. With winter in the rear view, it’s time to get outside and try something new. Move along if you’re a 3x Ironman champ, if not, check out a “beginner friendly” Sprint Triathlon. Sprint distance triathlons are short enough to be accessible but challenging enough for a seasoned athlete to chase a personal record.

All you need to get started is a good pair of running shoes, I prefer Brooks Ghosts, and a road bike. If you’re up for the challenge, check out the articles below for a roadmap to the beach, or pool, or just some nice new shoes.

History of Spring Break

How many times have you found yourself lounging on the beach, kids pouring sand down their shorts, Zach Brown Band playing over the Bose, and thought to yourself, “I wonder how Spring Break became a thing?” Probably not many, but this article will make sure it never happens again. For the curious spring breaker:
”Spring Break as we know it today was created in Fort Lauderdale. As early as the mid-1930s, college swim teams gathered in Fort Lauderdale to use the first Olympic-sized pool in Florida, the Casino Pool. When the participating swimmers weren’t training at the pool they were partying on the beach, and a tradition was born. After World War II, other college students caught on to how much fun the swimmers were having in Fort Lauderdale and started joining them there for Spring Break.“Spring Break as we know it today was created in Fort Lauderdale. Netflix and Chill (Mostly Just Chill, Please, Seriously)
In this book, John Mark Comer mentions that God is a 3 mph God. Meaning, he walks with us, not sprints from meeting to meeting, not rushes from practice to practice, not thirty seconds of quick daily verse reading in the morning. If you want to feel God’s presence you must slow down and walk with him. The enemy knows that, and is doing a good job of keeping us busy.
Iron Cowboy
If you’re looking for inspiration, look no further. Running 50 Ironman triathlons in 50 days is a seemingly impossible task, but the Iron Cowboy took it a step further and completed 101 Ironman triathlons in 101 days. Check this series out, and if you’re ever facing something daunting, or feel like quitting, remember what humans are capable of and just keep biting that elephant.
